Anyone use mustard on pork butt?

Hi all, just hoping to get some feedback, but I think I am going to go forward with this eggsperiment unless someone had a bad result. I am thinking of using a mustard base layer before applying the dry rub on a 10lb pork butt which I will smoke over hickory for about 22 hours.
Anyone do this? I put mustard on my ribs all the time, and am thinking it won't hurt on a pork butt which I will pull.

I believe that almost everyone uses it. It doesn't affect the taste much. Just makes a paste to hold the rub. Some say mustard actually does something favorable to the meat, but I've used EVOO, and can't really taste the difference...either ribs or butt.

Honestly, putting mustard on your ribs or pork butt will not do anything for you. I used to be of the belief that it did, but over time found that it was a messy step that was not needed. Just load your butt up with rub and let it melt in.

I have found that if you stab the butt or shoulder all over with a fork and massage the rub into the meat the flavor of your rub will penetrate a little more and give you a better cook than using the mustard.

This Big Dog is afraid I will cook him!!
He gets really worried when I start feeding him bacon... -
Never even tried one without mustard. Whatever else it does, it helps the rub stick to the meat.

Water does too...

Good looking animal. Now I know what keeps you in shape.(I did not say what shape thank you.)You should have talked to those croakers and asked them the question. When you take the off of the hook and hearing them talk to you is something else.Good luck on the cook and keep us informed as to what method ws the winner.
