Drip Pans

Any thoughts or experience placing a drip pan on the plate setter? Besides possibly disrupting the heat convection dynamics, I can't think of a reason not. Thanks, PoB

Yes you can, some Eggers will put copper pipe fittings under the pan to keep an air space. I use an adjustable rig and a pizza stone.

That's the best place to put it.

What I was trying to say :( is I use the pizza stone insted of the plate setter and I put the drip pan on the stone.

I'll add this comment just in case. If you just want to cook indirect and don't really need a drip pan for lots of drips but you want to keep your platesetter clean, it's perfectly fine to cover it in aluminum foil too. Happy Egging. Mark

When I use a drip pan I place it directly on the place setter.

If you place a drip pan directly on the plate setter, the drippings will burn. A few drippings don't pose a problem, but a lot will affect the taste of your meat. Someone told me to crumple up four small balls of foil and place them under the corners of the drip pan to leave air space between it and the plate setter. Works for me, no more burning grease.

it was the burning grease from the plate setter that messed up my very first cook on a BGE. Thanks to all for responding so quickly, PoB.

I always put something in the drip pan to avoid this problem..apple juice, apple cider, beer, beer/water, etc..dry drip pan=odoriferous emanations

I cover my drip pan with HDAF (no cleaning) then take the corners I tear off (for my round drip pan) and roll them into 4 small AF balls. I put them between the pizza stone and the drip pan. No burning of the drip pan. My 2 cents. thanks rc
