Stuffed Fritos

Went south of the border on these.
Mix together 1 lb. of 93% lean ground beef, 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, a packet of taco seasoning, and four Tbs. of salsa.
Stuffed the fritos and cooked direct at 350 for about 30 minutes. Had some left over stuffing so I scooped out a couple potatoes and filled them as well. Pulled at 160 internal.
Followed AZRP's directions on putting some sour cream in a zip lock and cutting the corner to make a squeeze bag. Squeezed some guacamole as well.
The kids across the street (pre-k) put a hurt on these but without the sour cream and guacamole.

Wow - outstanding. You're post earlier about the poppers and chicken got me going down the app track - now you post this -- I might not shut my egg down this weekend! Thank you for this post - I assume you used the SCOOP fritos?
Don -
Used the scoops. I must have gotten a bag that was bounced around. Had a lot of small bits I had to eat by themselves.
-
guess I live a sheltered life but when I read Fritos I envisioned the thin crisp corn chips - but yours look big as potato skins. Do you make those fritos or buy them. BTW those look great!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

That loos great. Who woulda thunk ... Stuffed Fritos! :woohoo:
-
Did you cook the taco meat before you mixed w/ the cheese and stuffed the fritos?
-
Too cool on the stuffed fritos. Family & friends looked at me strangely the first time I unveiled the Bacon Tots; then ate like they were M&M’s. I can’t wait to see the reaction on these….. :PLBGE Katy (Houston) TX

I bought the fritos. Those are the big scoops. The potatoes were nice as well.
-
I have got to try those this weekend. Thanks for the recipe and photo. My mouth is already watering(of course it usually is when I'm on the forum).
-
No - Stuffed em with the meat raw.
A lesson learned is to try ane use relatively the same size fritos. The real small ones cooked much earlier than the large ones and the fritos started to char on the inside. Alternatively, pull the small ones earlier. -
Very innovative. They look superb!
-
Those really look good! I like the taco direction you went with those. -RP
-
Inspired by AZRP's stuffed fritos - just went south instead of east. :woohoo:
-
I may put a little raw onion next time - thanks for the inspiration.
-
The meat goes on raw, take it to 157 internal. -RP
-
Looks great, all favs. of my family.

You cooked these direct? Was it on a raised grid? Just curious cause those look real good........
-
I made them at the Florida fest for the first time, did them indirect. -RP
-
I did them direct. Probably should go indirect with a pan to be safe, but I did them direct. My temp had climbed to about 390 - I put them on and closed the vents. The dome temp was under 350 when I pulled them.
-
Had some there and they were great but haven't tried them at home yet. Gotta move them up the to do list. Are you & Kim gonna make Fla. again next year? The Grand daughters still talk about Kim giving them the beads.
-
I definetly will try this south of the border approach....what is the "east" version mentioned?LBGE Katy (Houston) TX

Italian sausage, cheddar cheese, and marinara ssuce instead of the taco version.
-
Really great idea for something fast for the kids
