Is A 14 inch Drip Pan Too Large To Use ?

I found a 14 inch round pan that would make a great drip pan for a large (which has an 18 inch grill)....that would allow 2 inches all the way around for air to circulate and heat to rise...anyone know if this would work ?

Are these pans stainless or aluminum or does it matter? I've been using foil pans recently.
