on my BGE, the damper at the bottom of the egg has a screen door to it... How does this work. Still new at this thing but I really have never used it this screen door. What is the purpose of this screen door. How do you use it on your egg? Right now I am doing a test cook. No meat.. and I have that screen door in the closed position and the main damper in the open position.

It keeps the bigger chunks of charcoal from popping out and burning up your deck or your feet, whichever the hot coal finds first.

It is a safety screen for keeping hot ash from falling out of the bottom.. It does not impact tempeture or cooking. I always keep mine closed

Agree with the post above except for one thing.

It does make a difference for the temperature. i.e. 1" open w/ screen vs 1" open w/o screen, the latter will be hotter everything else staying the same.

Yes, it definitely restricts the airflow a bit which will affect the temps.
