I finally got around to trying the custom green version that Richard gave me at Florida Eggfest and I must say it is the shiznit for lifting the cast iron grate AND hanging it. Thanks to Thirdeye and Richard.

Hey thanks for the kind words Ray, and you are welcome ..... getting a nod from you really made my day.
Richard thought up that giveaway months before the Florida fest and did a real good job of keeping a secret.Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
I must be slow tonight (let's hope it's just tonight) but I do not see how the grid lifter is used in actual practice. Thirdeye, can you post a picture of this tool in action?
-
Well I hope so too.. :woohoo:
The little twin parallel protrusions hook into the grate. You use the handle to pick it up..
That was easy!!! -
It doesn't take any practice at all, most folks can work it on the first try. Heheee.
Here is a picture that Plowboy sent me showing his table and the ThirdHand. There are some more pictures and a cheesy video on my cookin' site.

Not for everyone......I had a guy tell me that if I turned the handle around, I could get more leverage. I told him "now it doesen't need any".Happy Trails~thirdeye~Barbecue is not rocket surgery -
Leverage on a half pound grate??? OK..
Eat your wheaties!!! -
My pleasure. It's a really nice tool. I will definitely use my cast iron grate more now that I have it.
And as most of you know I don't buy into the flavor of the month "must have" stuff very often.Ray Lampe Dr. BBQ -
Mine's not green, but it has become a key addition to the Dizzy trailer for competitions. Sometimes I like to be able to yank off the grate with a couple butts on top, and I find the tool to be strong enough for the task! Thanks Thirdeye.
Off to Danville. See yall on the flipside!

Dang! That thing is sweet!
Yet another "must have".
Y'all are going to bankrupt me! :P -
and I love it. Don't got any color though just S/S all bright and shiny.
Lifts the cast iron grate like it was nothing and lifts it with a couple of 9lb pork shoulders on it too! -
I've used mine for some time now. It is great...tom
