New BGE cart TAKE TWO!!!!!!!!

My buddy replaced his deck last year leaving his old deck material in a burn pile. Luky enough he never lit it. I went ahead and recycled it into a BGE cart so I guess I did my part to save the planet
I also cooked my first butt on Sunday and it came out fantastic, I made a Coastal NC style with beans and cole slaw. I had to pull it around 190 since I did not plan the time very well, but it was still good...
What a difference a day makes, this is what we woke up to on Monday. This winter will not end....

Very nice table. Working room on both sides of the Egg. I like working with salvaged wood - just have to be careful that you don't ruin a tool by hitting a nail, staple or screw.

Yeah, I just finished doing a kitchen out of some reclaaimed barn wood so my knives were trashed..... Figured I would tear them up a little more before changing them

I have gone through a few knives working with some salvaged antique heart pine. My planer has knives that with two edges so I turn them around. I have an extra set and there is a dude close by that sharpens just about anything that needs an edge - he does a nice job on them.

I put ceramic tile under the BGE, what benefit do the feet add besides some stability? I figured since I only has an 1/8" clearence around the egg in the table top that it could not fall over. Is there a reason for having a thicker stone under the egg? I have not observed any burning or overheating at that point, If it is for stability, the risers on the small platform are made of rock maple so they should hold... Any advice is good advice, thanks

PS. I just realized that this was a early picture, I tiled the entire surface of the platform with 1/4" tile.... -

sorry, but 1/4" tile isn't going to last very long as the egg gets hot on the bottom and there will be thermal shock. Many of us use 2" cement pavers though even those exploded on me once when I was trying to run feetless like you! The feet create air flow under the egg. While you're at if you only have 1/8" clearance with the table that is close and chancing scorching or even fire. Fishlessman has a picture of his burnt table that will make a believer out of you!Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I guess I will have to make some upgrades......
I have plenty of room to increase the hole, the egg rests a good 1 1/2" above the table, below the rim, I never noticed the egg getting too hot but if you say it does I will add some more protection.....

this was 2 inch thick pine boards, sat this way for years. burnt during a low and slow overnight while i slept. the bottom does get hot. an airspace will help, even just three quarters placed under the egg on the stone will help and you wont need to change a thing, easy fix for 75 cents

I build similar boards and will post a picture when I find the link to the posting instructions. You're right about folks wanting them. What is your finish? It seems shiny. I use food grade mineral oil.
