Mike in Abita

Followed the recipe and it is awesome again.
Gathered all ingredients.
Mixed them in the mortar, and then let it marinate with the shrimp for 45 min till the egg was ready.
On the egg set at 400*
Cooked for 7 minutes and tasted one. A little underdone so I let them go for 10 min.
Plated up with alittle lemon and a good seasonal brew.
These were great.
Still have those lemon fish filets. Thinking about blackening them for lunch tomorrow. Maybe a few mushrooms caprese for appetizers.

Those look fantastic!!! :woohoo:
Great job..
Where can I get some of that Beer? -
Those are real beauties, Mike.
-
Nice looking shrimp bud...
Where'd you get that mortar and pestle? I need me one and can't find one reasonably priced. -
The shrimp look great Mike. Isn't it nice to have all that fresh seafood at our doorstep, not to mention the Abita Brewery. By the way the pork butt tuned out great, thanks for the advice I will try to post pictures in a bit.
-
I'm not sure what's reasonable for a mortar and pestle, but Amazon has a bunch of them for under $20.
-
Yea, but how good is the quality? Silly as it sounds, I want to make sure it is good quality.
I found a couple at Williams-Sonoma. One was pretty small and had a wooden handle and was about $50. The other was nice, but was $80.
I'll give those at Amazon a look. -
Rod, not sure if there's one near you, but Cost Plus World Market usually carries mortar and pestal sets of varying sizes and, if I remember correctly (it's been a while), they were decently priced.
Just an idea . . .

Thanks Jason.
There is one about 2 miles from the house. I may go check it out tomorrow.
Thanks for the idea. Never would have thought to look there. -
Thanks Jason. Can you get Abita there? This was a Strawberry Ale that went good with the shrimp.
-
Thanks for the kind words. Here is a link to the brewery. http://www.abita.com/brew/index.html

If you haven't tried them. and you like shrimp, they are well worth it.
-
Chesk those places stated above and also try Bed Bath & Beyond and Marshalls. Wife picked that one up for $14.00 at Marshalls.
-
I'm just glad I'm not allergic to seafood. That would suck. For a smaller brewery, I think they put out a fairly good product.
-
I've bookmarked your post, as it so happens :woohoo:
-
nice shots!

I'm learnin Yoda.

JUMBO SHRIMP LOOK GOOD
-
Yes, Publix carries some Abita - I just haven't seen as many of the seasonal varieties that you get back home. It's not like the days back in LA when I used to have a senator staffer whose husband worked for Abita bring me cases at a time in her trunk for free - we would do the swap out back of the St. Tammany Parish President office - funny days, I tell ya.
Cheers,
jason -
Looks delicious! You have just inspired me to make this as an appetizer with our tuna this afternoon and to buy one of those cool "holy skillets" as my wife called it.Knoxville, TN
Nibble Me This -
Jumbo Shrimp taste good too. Try it some time I think you will like it.
-
I think you will like them. IMO the perfect amount of spice. Holey skillet helps keep it all together. I think it would be great with Tuna.
-
Mike...those look awesome.....must put them on my list...beautifully explained & great pics.
