Has anyone had any experience with temperature control devices like the BBQ GURU DigiQ II TEMP CONTROL PACKAGE FOR BIG GREEN EGG listed on Fred's Music and BBQ site?

All I am really looking for is a wireless dual monitor as the fan seems a little over the top for my needs maybe but I would like to see a picture of the fan unit installed on a BGE.

Thanks, now my next question is what goes with the Damper top when you use these devices with the fans? Open, closed, capped? Do the fans blow ash onto the food? I can't think of anything else and I read through TNW's stuff, so those are my remaining questions other than the utility of using the wireless model for monitoring ONLY without the fan option. Thanks again.

i usually have mine closed up pretty good.

i have not had ash blown onto my food that i know of

i have only used mine "for monitoring pourpose only" once and that was because i had a bad probe but i sent it back to bbq guru and they replaced it.. my question is why would you want to use it without the fan?

The fan air flow is too low for blowing ash to be a problem.

You set the DFMT to be barely open and the fan forces air through it to keep the fire at the temp you want.

If you only want to monitor grate and food temps, the Maveric ET-73 remote temp guage is quite competent. Google it.

I put off getting one for a long time..then fell asleep and nearly lost 12 lbs of pork a few weeks back..I now have the digiQ2 and love it...I dont just use it on long slow cooks...anything under 450 and I use it at least to control the pit temp...awesome device and I agree with others about the folks at BBQ Guru..I spent about half an hour on the phone with shotgun fred when I first got mine and the time was invaluable and he is so talkative I couldnt get off the phone!!..heh

I own the ProCom 4 it is awesome, I also have the Competitor and the DigiQ is on my table for testing right now. All products are excellent. Most important is the service that the BBQ Guru offer. Second to none. You can buy with confidence knowing that your satisfaction is their first priority. I have had a few minor problems and before I could say anything, the replacement product was darn-well in the mail before I hung up the phone. Seriously, you will be impressed with everything they have and especially how you are treated as a customer and friend.
