<p />This works great for poking up through the ash great to stir the lump and or clear out the ash during long cooks. I have been using a bent piece of rod with great results, never had an all nighter go out when I stirred the lump and cleared the ash before turning in. With the cast iron grate you gan put it in a hole near the edge and spin the grate a little. This settles the lump and removes some ash really well. My dealer liked the idea so much (Char-Woody originally posted about using a coat hanger) he made these up. Works the same as the bent rod but looks way cooler. Give something like this a try or I can put you in touch with my dealer.
