projectiles from lawn mowers
Options
I saw a BGE at a Flower and Garden show and it looked "delicious"! My greatest concern, however, is how at risk is it going to be on the edge of my deck. When we mow the lawn or use the snow blower, sometimes a rock will be flung out. Although we've not yet lost a window, they don't cost as much as a BGE and it would be just my rotten luck to have a rock smack into the BGE and crack the ceramic.[p]Any pearls of wisdom out there for me?

When you cut your grass, aim the discharge shute away from the egg.

I had a similiar potential problem with the lawn service mowing around the pool and getting the grass thru the screen and into the pool. We discussed it and now he goes clockwise instead on counter clockwise and the projectiles and grass go into the lake. Will reversing your direction help?
-
You also might ask the person who took the deflector shield off of the lawnmower to put it back on..
-
I get rid of the lawnmower and the snowblower.

Sue,
Clean up the rocks from the yard. If you were to hit a neighbor's kid, it'd cost more than a couple of Eggs.[p]Joe

i bought a drought resistant, slow growing strain of grass seed when i overseeded the lawn the year we moved in.
i literally mow four times a year....
but i can tell you, if that's yer biggest worry, then just go ahead and buy the egg. it will literally out live you.ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante -
sue posted this thread on the old forum and cannot see all the responses. am i the only one that can tell when a post comes from the old forum?
-
Sue,[p] You are getting answers over on the new forum. [p]But I have to ask why not just rid the yard of projectiles before mowing your lawn?
-
That would be no!!
-
I can tell.
-
And I believe I can tell.

i know... i used to go over there and tell them they have responses on the 'new' forum, but that gets old after the first 100 times. sure wish they would make up their mind and have one forum.
anyone know how a newbie would know to click the exit sign to get to the new forum? it's a little cryptic at best. -
It took me awile to figure it out too. :woohoo:
-
But do you really have it figured out
-
I'll never have it completely figured out.
-
Well those are easy. Mulch or bag. But how do you fix a broken upload button?? I'll fix 3 windows and 1 door for the answer. LOL

When I was a wee young lad my dad and I cut yards. Somehow I got the easy gig and rode the riding mower while he trimmed and did the edging (I have done my lifetimes worth of edging later in highschool when I worked at a cemetary.....when you've edged all the grave markers.....its time to start over).
We mowed a trailer park owned by a lady from our church. I hit an unopened pine cone that went flying out and bounced of a root on the ground or something and ended up airborne and into/through the window of a trailer.
The renter came out cussing and screaming like there was no tomorrow. Fortunately for me the owner was not worried about it. -
One word of advice from a guy who makes a living from lawn care, if you are slinging rocks when you cut the grass raise the deck, you are cutting too low. My mowers are equipped with a device that blocks off the discharge to keep objects from flying out, and to keep the grass from the beds, pools, etc.

Had a trailer park with the operative word being HAD and why is is they can cuss and scream like there is not tomorrow all day and all night long, but if the rent is due then they have laryngitis?? LOL Life is so much better caring for eggs Julie -
I mowed my lawn for 14 years when one day an old rusty 8 inch tent post shot out from my mulching( no discharge) tractor. God knows where it came from. It hit my car left a 2 inch hole and traveled another 12 feet. If the car wasn't there it would have hit my wife or neighbor. No when people walk by I turn the blade off.

and exiting left is just not a smart idea! road hazard!ed egli avea del cul fatto trombetta -Dante

i would suggest something like "click here to view the new 'test' forum where most of the big green egg forum traffic has moved". or just decide which forum will be the one and get on with it and delete the other one.
i fear big green egg is losing ground on this issue.
