Dare I say I am doing a butt today and don't have time to gather and make Elder Wards rub... anyone know of a decent store bought rub they can reccommend?I have the full line up of DP products on hand as well...

Dizzy Dust works great on butts.
I also like to use John Henry's Pecan Rub. It can be found in a few BBQ retail places like BBQ Galore. Maybe call your area BGE dealers to see if they carry it.
Bad Byron's Butt Rub is another good choice. -
I always like to experiment with whatever sounds/looks good to me from what I have at hand.
That being said I find that rubs don't make a big impression with me on butts. It's what you put on it after it's pulled that counts the most.
However I do try to brine or salt it at least 12 hours if possible.

PS: Try sprinkling some Cavender's Greek Seasoning on the meat after being pulled. That was an experiment that turned out great for me. -
I've found McCormick's Grill Mates pork rub to be pretty good.

A good staple for me is Montreal Seasoning by McCormick Seasoning Co. You can find it at Costco or most grocery stores. This is a very good off the shelve alternative. :cheer:

I second the John Henry Pecan Rub..awesome with pork of any kind...I used to use Elder's rub even on my bb ribs but recently switched to JH Pecan on ribs...very good :P ..put it on thick with a mustard base and let it set for a bit and soak...makes a great dark brown bark on the meat...

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Cajun Foreplay spice rub is my favorite!

I've done a couple with Dizzy Dust and was very happy with the results.

Where can you get it?

My local grocery store carries it, along with lots of other supermarkets in the north east.Or you can order it from their web site.
