If you buy a pellet cooker, what are you going to grill on those few times that you do?

Friend is an egg dealer & just added pellet cooker (traeger?). Will rust & doesn't have the temp range or versality of a BGE. Get the EGG & you wont regret it.

hardwoods,
You've gotten some responses over at the new forum.
Don't know much about pellet smokers, but the Egg's versality alone makes it worth it in my book. I'm pretty sure you can't make a pizza or brownies on a pellet rig. Haha. [p]

thanks for the help
I can see green -
I looked at the pellet as the dealer here sells both. Definately not the versitality of the egg, not as good all around and since it is metal it seemed like it would have more problems with life span due to rust or metal burn out. It just didn't impress me other than the ease of operation and the cleanliness of the pellets.

You wont regret it. Welcome to EGGVILLE. Besides the people are nicer & more helpful than pelletheads.

I've had a LBGE for 6 years & added a 2'nd last year. watched (lurked) the forum for 2 years before registering in Dec. I've gotten so much from just reading the problems then solution's from those that have that I had to sign up. I've never met any of the one's that have helped over the years but am looking forward to it at my first FlaEggfest.no question posted goes unanswered. GREAT BUNCH OF PEOPLE.

I have a BGE Large, an FEC-100 pellet smoker, and a Traeger 075 pellet grill. Just won a BGE Mini at the KCBS Banquet this weekend.
I've made pizzas on the Traeger and desserts in the FEC-100. I think both styles of cookers are great. I wouldn't let go of any of my cookers. The pellet grills cost a good deal more. -
ATX,[p]I own both. And yes you can make brownies, pizza and other World Championship BBQ in a pellet cooker. ;-)[p]

I'm not knocking pellet cooker , I like the food I had off them ,I just want something for my backyard ,I'm looking at a Traeger 070 or large BGE same price, 418sq in
280 sq in,, in 20 years I've gone thru a lot of cookers looking for the right one and still looking . I've heard a lot good things about both -
For the same money as a Traeger 070, you could get a larger Country Smoker from Louisiana Grills. I wouldn't do a Traeger 070 over a BGE. At least the 075 can have racks added to it.

thanks plowboy for input

I own both. Each has advantages. Pellet doesn't sear if that is your bag. Pellet doesn't have to be watched for change in temp. Smoke in pellet is more consistent. The largest disadvange to my pellet unit is if I lose electricity, its over. In that same scenario, my BGE would still be cooking along.
