My first cook
Options
Well, I did it. I used my egg for the first time. And I have to say the results were very very good. I was surprised at how much flavor you get from the basic lump. I used this recipe:
http://www.nakedwhiz.com/spatch.htm
The tenderness and moistness of the chicken was unbelievable. Even in the breast the juices were dripping off the bird.
It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to tweak the vents to stabilize the temp. Once I got it right though I was amazed at how it held a steady temp. It blows my mind how at how little of an adjustment can make the temps rise and fall.
Now I need to up my game and try a new recipe. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Bill

That looks great. I may have to give them a try. All I want to do now is cook on that egg. If I could keep it going 24/7 I think I would

Oh, there will be plenty of opportunities for that! -
Congratulations, Bill!
Once you get started, there is no turning back. Here is my recommendation to you:

Gotta fire up the pit really hot for this one! Good luck, and let us know how it goes. -
Bill,
I could not be more proud for you!! Glad you did such a great job.

Glad to hear that the first cook went so well.
Last night, I cooked AZRP's spicy grilled shrimp from the 2007 EGGtoberfest cookbook and some chicken breasts.
For a second cook, you could try a variety of things. I would still stay away from the high temps though. Ribs are very good if you have the time. Pork tenderloin is quite easy. Smoked chicken drumsticks are great. Near fried chicken wings are good too.
Just so many choices.

Congrats, hopefully this will be the start of many great cooks. You will not be disappointed.

i second the recommendation for baby back ribs (they're my new favorite).
also, try a fatty. i had never heard of a fatty before this forum, and it is always a crowd favorite:

Welcome and check out the other Egg sites out there. You will find many more tips and tricks. You will find new reasons to "fire up the Egg" every day. I often use the Mini and a hand warmer for the cool Fl nights while playing darts with the family.
