650 degrees

I finished the kids snack which was wings and my top damper was getting kind of gunked up so I put top damper on the grill grate (platter setter is in) and opened the bottom damper wide open, came back an hour and a half later and it was 650 degrees.
I called myself doing a 500 degree 2 hour clean a few weeks ago but the results were not like this.
The lid was stuck shut, I'm not sure my gasket will take many of these but the black on the inside is gone, plate setter is real clean too.
Dadgum egg really is self cleaning.
And this is what thermo nuclear looks like. Damn it was hot.
This one shows my much cleaner interior.

Wonder if putting some Parchment paper between the gasket would prevent it from sticking? I fried my gasket the last time I tried to nuke it clean.

I seem to remember reading that on the XL BGE you run a grave risk of frying your gasket at high temps with the plate setter in.
I sort of forgot that piece of advice but I think I dodged a bullet.
I guess you would have to place the plate setter under the fire ring to be safe.
I will have to wait until tomorrow and look at it close but I think my gasket really cough thermo nuclear hell tonight. -
WOW if it was 650 after 90 minutes, I bet it hit 1000 somewhere in there and was DOWN to 650 when you came back...
That's a great way to clean stuff, but also a quick way to melt gaskets.
I like that lava inferno picture.
cheers! -
Very nice. Put your volcano suit on!

Yes I flamed the forum and WMK hasn't yanked it.

Really interesting how the pics match the coal inside the egg. I'm going to show my boys this after school. Thanks for sharing!
