I dont get it ,Small Egg giving me fits!!

Ok I have a large and I love it ,this small just like small kid is NOT working the program the way I want it to work .
My large I set it bottom draft in most any weather and get close to the temp 250 most of the time and get what I want ,Now the small I set at say 1/4" or less and it will be ok for an hr and when I leave come back always 350 or more
Thought I knew a little bit about it NEED HELP

Is it possible the top lid is not sealing properly. Use the dollar bill test.

Test to see whether a dollar bill slips freely between the lid and base with closed. Try at different points in the circle. If it comes out without any tugging, you have a gap and need to make adjustments to the hinge. Dollars to doughnuts its leaking. You may want the dealer to do this it they put it together originally.
