Different solution to logging on this morning

This morning (evening in the states) when I attempted to log on I was given the can't login message. Thought oh SH%^ here I go now. But when I posted a follow up and used the login box there below my post, it logged me in. I am afraid to log off but know I will have to soon. Has anyone else had this experience? One user was having trouble logging in from overseas but I am logging in from China.
