Egret's ham recipe question

I have a couple of questions about substitutions. Will whiskey work instead of bourban and will regular pancake syrup work instead of maple syrup. Looking forward to trying this recipe.

    never made it but since no one answered, here is my 2 cents
    whiskey should work, like bacon it makes everything better.
    i would not use pancake syrup it has additives thickeners and such and may make gummy yucky stuff and who knows what happens to artificial maple flavor at cooking temps?. i would not take the chance.

    Whiskey will work just fine. I've always used maple syrup but WessB has used pancake syrup with good results. Another alternative that someone posted last week was honey......
