Possible to cook two 8lb butts at the same time?
Comments
-
tommy,
I do it all the time, sometimes 4 of them. -RP
-
tommy,
Sure just takes a little longer. I think the record is 6 on a large. I could be wrong and I'm sure whoever got 7 or more will let us know.

Mike in Abita,
Still have to cook at 2-3 hours per total pounds? If so, do you have to add lump charcoal at some point? Thanks!
-
tommy,
What size egg? I would fill to the top of the firebox at least. Some go halfway or more up the fire ring. My XL holds 10 lbs of lump. I can go at least thirty hours on that. You shouldn't have to add more if you fill full. They should take about 2-2.5 hours per lb.[p][p]This is one 8.8lb bag of Cowboy lump in an XL[p]

Mike in Abita,
With all due respect..the number of butts on an egg, without goin to extremes, will not take any longer...3 or 4 of approx same weight will cook in the same time as 1 of said same weight..if I`m doing an overnight butt cook I always try to fill the egg up...cause it doesn`t change anything...at least in my experience..[p]Wess

WessB,
Are you therefore saying that if I can fit my two 6lb butts on the V-rack in indirect heat with a drip pan under them, thatat a dome temp of 225' - 250' that BOTH should reach the internal temp of 200' in about 18 hours?
Thanks and Happy Halloween!
-
tommy,
If they are close to the same weight to begin with..yes..if they are both 6# they will cook in the same time that 1 6# butt would take...+ / - 20 minutes[p]Wess
-
WessB,
What do you think about my dome temp range and cooking time?
-
tommy,
Yep both Wess and I agree. Both will cook about the same lenght of time as one. Just take internal temps, pull at 200, wrap in HDAF and enjoy.[p]Mike
-
tommy,
Dome temp of 250 is fine. Separate butts lay flat on cooking grate with drip pan underneath. 8lb butt X 2hours per lb= 16 hours +/-.
