  • Celtic Wolf,
I think my gasket was well on its way when I brought it home. I don't know what's normal, but the inner edge close to the center of the bottom bowl (edge that is closest to the inside) looks burnt, but most of the felt looks ok. I guess I'm not sure what it should look like. I took a pix of it before my first grill. Hopefully it's not damaged right out of the gate! ha ha ! my luck if it is....Thank you !

Celtic Wolf,[p]I wasn't able to attend the eggfest, but I am the proud parent to a 2 month old XL egg. It has been some what of a challenge, but occasionally I turn out good eats. We learn from our mistakes, and get to eat them. [p]Everything shared on the forum is extremely helpfull. And fun also. I look forward to viewing the form everyday.[p]Love, laugh, live[p]Gordon

Took delivery of my Large Egg 2 Saturdays ago. Only took me 9 days to run through the first bag of lump. So far it has been one of the best purchases I have ever made.

Saturday: Chicken Drums and Deer sausage
Sunday: 2 Filets / 2 New York Strips
    Tuesday: Boston Butt
Thursday: 3 Racks of Spare Ribs / Wings
Friday: Cedar Plank Smoked Salmon / Asparagus
    Saturday: Wings / Burgers
    Sunday: Pork Chops

I do have a couple of questions:

    * What do I need to do to roast my gasket so that I won't do it?
    * What do you guys use to clean your grids/platesetters etc?
  • HungryNephew,[p]Yes that was me.

thirdeye,[p] I would have referred you to the Playing with Fire and Smoke Blog Site, but for some reason he doesn't have ABTs on the site.

  • Celtic Wolf, After many months of saving, reading, and visiting my local dealers, I just ordered my LBGE which will come in on Thursday. Now, just to clear this muddy water, I have come to understand my need for several "eggcessories" to complete the package. These include: Digi2 controller, Plate Setter, Woo2, new grates (cast iron &/or Stainless), Rib Racks, Chicken Stands, etc. On top of this, I'm understanding that my gasket will burn by the end of this weekend, even after the "Seasoning" of 3 to 4 cooks no hotter than 300 (was planning some tenderloins/boston butts & beer can chiken), so I should order new gasket material from RRP. Its all a bit overwhelming.[p]That said, thanks to all who post here. I'm a harden charcoal guy - 15+years on the Weber. I already light it with a propane torch (weedburner - really gets the neighbors) so I'm thinking I'll stick with that. We really need a "new egger survivor guide".

    Celtic Wolf,
Just pulled my first batch of burgers of my egg - they were some of the best we've ever had! I'm new to this egging world, but am enjoying it immensely and am blown away every day by the helpful tips people share here and the relationships that appear to grow on this forum!

Rick's Tropical Delight,[p]Jeez Rick, I hope you didn't get the one I cooked on. My stuff was high fat and high sugar. When I finished there was barely any gaps left. If it is I would gladly buy you a new one.[p]Steve

  • Celtic Wolf,[p]I am the proud owner of a demo Egg from the Eggfest. I just picked it up today and man, was it dirty.[p]It is raining here in Atlanta, therefore I could not fire it up.[p]Any suggestions on a first cook?[p]I got the place setter, the grill extender, baking stone, and "sittin' chicken".[p]I was thinking about doing brats just to get it going or beer butt chicken or ribs or... or.... Okay... I have no idea what I will do.[p]Suggestions?[p]Greg

The pic is from my first cook on Saturday. The chicken was moist and tender! Everyone loved it. Will cook ribs tomorrow night. Pictures of that to follow.

  • Celtic Wolf,
Does getting my second Egg count?
    Tim

  • Celtic Wolf,[p]OK... I admit it... I got an Egg about a month ago and have cooked on it every chance I have gotten. I rescued it of CL (it is actually the second one but the first one I sold without cooking on it). I didn't think I would ever keep one but was inspired by Thirdeye and Rick's Tropical on another forum. I owe them thanks!!!
