check this out...
as i prepare for my first eggtoberfest, i look up my first post on this forum,
from just over a year ago. see the link below. pretty excited, wasn't i? hahahaa[p]truth be known, that pork was bathed in starter cube fumes, but we didn't know any different because it was better than from the gasser still! heck, i had never cooked with lump charcoal before, only gassers & briquettes.[p]so it's been just over a year now since i brought home martha, my medium. i convinced dhuffjr to bring me a large from the omaha eggfest, and he actually did it! hahaa! thanks dennis! [p]so sunday i will be bringing home another large egg! look what you have done to me! what is it about this cooker... this place? i have been assimilated as most of you have been.[p]a few people have posted on the forum my photographs have convinced them to purchase a big green egg. that is so incredibly cool i can't explain. as you may have noticed, i have this obsession with photographing my food. i'm not really sure why or how it started, but it is what it is and it seems to be growing.[p]holy carp, this has gotten way too long.[p]so... see you at the fest and if not then, at a fest near you soon!
come on over for a shot of rum and some grilled fruit!
yarr!

    Rick's Tropical Delight,
Rick, You are just one of those guys that have that gleam of brightness over you. Whenever, I'm just perusing quickly through the forum and I see a post with your handle, I try to read it, even if in midstream of a string, because I know that you're gonna be humorous, you're going to be right on the money with any info you have, and I'm going to see some really creative cooking and pics. You are the epitome of what this forum is and should be. You are also a fun person to "brainstorm" with on new ideas. I'm looking forward to meeting you in person this week. And maybe even drinking some rum(as long as it's not on fire at the time). The forum is lucky to have a member like you!

Rick's Tropical Delight,[p]Couldn't agree more. I bought my first one about a month before you at the Iowa State Fair. Lived in Iowa my whole life and never bought anything other than a corn dog there. But had done some research and saw it in action. That was enough. Now I have two larges and a small, do competition bbq and will be adding an XL in the spring.

    Rick's Tropical Delight,
I appreciate all the photos- they've let me know what my food should look like. I hope to start posting some of my own soon, once the yard work slows down and I can concentrate on my favorite winter activity - wine and cooking!

    Rick's Tropical Delight,
Thanks for all of your contribution. Your RTD World Famous cole slaw recipe has pulled me out of several jams.[p][p]

    Rick's Tropical Delight,
I made the cole slaw for our family reunion in Linville Falls, NC this year. I drove 20 miles round trip for the 1/2 cup of buttermilk. The cole slaw went well with the ribs and butts. Thanks again.

  • MakoBBQ,
ha! that's the only recipe i use buttermilk in. maybe we need to find another use for the rest of the carton like dunking some chicken in there. that's what i'm gonna do[p]that coleslaw is really better the next day after it sits in the fridge. i'll be making more this holiday season for sure.

    Rick's Tropical Delight,
Wow! Kim read your post about being here for a year and I told her you've only been around for about six months. Funny how this getting older thing makes time fly. Anyway, looking forward to meeting you this weekend. If you feel like helping clean shrimp on Friday afternoon, let me know. :>) -RP

  • AZRP,
love to, but i'll be enjoying the view down the I75 corridor friday afternoon and most likely be stuck in rush hour traffic north of atlanta.[p]pussersflag.gif

    Rick's Tropical Delight,
Which is why I'll be rolling into Atlanta around 11pm or so Thursday night. A little tip I heard last year. Take 75 all the way into Atlanta and then take 85 back up towards the hotel. Longer drive but you should keep moving and it'll work out a tad faster.....or so I was told.

dhuffjr,[p]Rick, or anyone traveling in via auto, feel free to ping me offline for a cell number. I can check DOT traffic and let you know the best way to come in. It is really hit or miss.[p]Sometimes it is best to come in then out, sometimes it is best to take 285 across the top. It really is a crap shoot. I-85 north heading back out can be worse than 285 across the top depending on incidents and time of day.

    Fidel,
Not that I'm coming so I don't need to know, but as a favor to others can you address the speeds to be expected on 285 and 85? The many times we have shot through there traffic flies low and slow pokes will be flattened. OTOH one summer we hit a MAJOR crack down with hundreds of troopers. We heard on the news that night a staggering number of speeding tickets had been issued.

RRP,[p]DeKalb County, which begins just west of the I-85/285 Interchange is always bad for speed traps. I would recommend no more than 5 over in that stretch. DeKalb county is the home of Tucker and the mothership.[p]Coming down I-75 through Georgia it is pretty safe to go 10-15 over, if you can. Sometimes traffic prevents it.[p]Same story heading north up 75 or 85 or south down 85 from Charlotte. You normally won't get a second glance at 10 over. I-20 east and west generally have a bit more trooper activity. Law in Georgia is that only a trooper can pull you over for less than 10 over. Local cops cannot make stops issue speeding citations for less than +10.[p]Any time from 6:00am to 9:30am and 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm there is high likelihood of traffic jams on all major thoroughfares beginning about 20 miles outside of I-285 interchanges on all interstates.[p]Anyone wanting a traffic check go to the link below:[p]

  • Fidel,
cool... i was just going to tell them i knew hungry man and hope they let me off![p]i don't have a cell phone, so what's the traffic info radio station? anybody know... maybe it's on that link you just posted.

Rick's Tropical Delight,[p]The best radio traffic updates are on 750am WSB or 680am. I think both of them update traffic every 6 minutes.
