a great day - just took the plunge and added a medium to my large. understand that most of you prefer the large/small combo. Anyway, i have the space and i am seriously addicted to the bge![p]my thought is flexibilty. my need is less for big crowds and more for different types of simultaneous cooking: smoking a turkey while roasting veggies or other side dishes.[p]should i reconsider before delivering and order the small?

    eddy-turn,
I wouldn't. You've got more room when you need it. [p]Often the L/S combo is tossed out as a better choice than say one XL....for the versatility.[p]There is a surprising amount of mediums out there and folks cook up a storm on them.[p]The only thing you could say the small may be better at is obviously its smaller so it will use less lump for small cooks.[p]

    eddy-turn,
did you consider a second large, accesseries will be interchangeable with 2 larges : ) i think your choice will be right, after owning a large for a while it makes the decision easier to know what to add later down the road

    eddy-turn,
I have the XL & small combo. Added the small for portability first (camping) and flexability second. If I didn't camp, I'd have gone with the medium.

eddy-turn,[p]Nope. I have the large/medium combo and love it. The only reason I would think a small would be better is if you plan to move it frequently.

eddy-turn,[p]A medium works nice with two tiers of corn roasting, or four stuffed squash. And if you don't want to fire up a large, there's still enough room for many main courses, and a side.[p]gdenby

    eddy-turn,
You be confused by now. LOL Go what you think is right for your needs. For me, it was 2 larges. Cast iron grate on one most of the time. Plate setter on the other most of the time. Then a small later on.
Look forward to seeing what you buy. [p]Mike

Mike, I agree with you. Two larges and a small is the perfect combo. I only have one large, but hope to add a small next time I go to town and then another large maybe next summer. The second large is strictly for parties so is really a luxury and eggstravagance and may never happen.[p]But the large/medium combo would not be a bad way to go. Two eggs are always better than one![p]Gwen

eddy-turn, I have a large medium combo and find myself cooking mostly on the large. There is just not enough difference to differentiate between the two, so I go big. [p]I think cooking on different size eggs is all about habit and cooking style…

tjv,[p]I think I already know the answer to this, but do you think that you use less fuel when using a medium (or small) compared to a large?

eddy-turn,[p]If "flexibility" is your reasoning...then my reasoning would be that a medium egg is more versatile than a small one...[p]JD

    Hi eddy-turn,
As long as your choice is ceramic (BGE being the pick of the litter in my opinion) your on solid ground.
As for the combo I chose lge/lge. More versatile & not hard to move & reassemble.
    Cheers & have fun,

Ok, so I already have a large - the dealer recommended a medium for $550ish. This way, some of items are interchangeable..???[p]Anyway, single guy here, Large is in the back of the house, was thinking of getting a small or medium to go in the front, for neighborhood events and, it happens that it's cooler in the front (till i get a shade in the back).[p]Medium or small?

  • Jeeves,
medium[p]tomorrow night, my medium and large will cook together for their first time, pizzas and boston butts. a match made in heaven! hahaa[p]i think the medium is more versatile than the small, plus it can make a bigger pizza *grin*

  • Jeeves,
One neighbor SMALL, more than one neighbor MEDIUM.
