I know the newer eggs can reach higher temps and have the spring assisted hinge, but other than that, do I need a newer egg(since Eggtober fest is a comin')?

Big'un,[p]Add to the stable, why not. But keep that cooker, they are great barbecues. A buddy of mine got one just like that handed down to him right after we got out of high school. That was 33 years ago and it's still going strong. In fact he just made his first crack repair. It's tricked out with a BGE plate setter, a new grate and a few Eggessories, compliments of yours truly.[p]Deep down he wants to buy a small Egg mainly for grilling.[p]~thirdeye~

    thirdeye,
You seem to have an infinite amount of knowlege on these eggs. Are you a vendor or just an enthusiast? [p]"It's tricked out with a BGE plate setter, a new grate and a few Eggessories, compliments of yours truly"; One more question.. are you willing to adopt? LOL.

    Big'un,
nope. no good reason to upgrade. [p]thing is, though... the very fact you are asking means you want to and that you are just looking for an excuse.[p]the only thing you can't comfortably do on your old model is high temp sears.[p]so.. what about getting a small? you can scratch the itch, get a new egg, and sear like a banshee.[p]win/win

    stike,
Ok stike, very insightful...I feel like I should be giving you my insurance card after that psychological diagnosis(heh heh). I just wonder about transporting it and the fact that if it breaks at this stage I won't be able to replace the lid,,base, etc. Hey, I realize i'm just gettin' it broken in(..kinda like me). I wonder if the dimensions have changed at all since those new-fangle ceramic eggs have come into eggsitance. Will all of the new eggcessaries fit..like the stoker, spring assisted hinges..or a new daisy top?

Big'un,[p]I have been the proud owner of a medium egg for about 5 years, but last year, while visiting in-laws in Atlanta, saw ad for demo sale, and caved in to desire for "bigger and better." Bought the Xtra-large egg and transported it back to VA in back of Toyota Highlander--no problems at all during transport, or subsequent assembly. Went back this year for plate setter; oh yeah, and to see wonderful in-laws again.

    Big'un,
How about this for a reason, "Double your Pleasure"
The one on the left is a Large Imperial Kamado "Modern style" equipped with a BGE spring assist hinge and stainless steel slide draft, over thirty years old and still cruising! Take the plunge! The kids will love you for it!!
