BGE in the rain
Options
I've read that the egg itself won't be troubled by rain, but here in Florida we have some pretty serious afternoon storms -- and fortunately they're happening almost daily again (we need the rain badly). When not in use, my BGE is under the vinyl cover, but it isn't under a roof.[p]So far I've been lucky, but I'm concerned about water getting into the egg through the iron ventilation cap.[p]Does anybody have a strategy for dealing with rain?[p]

Morning McGuire:[p]I'm in Florida also, Tampa area (where are you), and here is my setup which is always out in the weather and I really haven't noticed any problems. Some people have fashioned "raincaps" out of various items (old coffee cans with holes punched in the side) to minimize any rain that might get through the small opening in the daisy wheel.[p][p]When the egg is shutdown using the ceramic rain cap works fine.[p]Have a GREAT day!

get yourself a metal vent cap at any big box store like orange or blue. They work fine - but be careful as they get very HOT!

SSN686,
I'm up here in Jacksonville. That's a pretty sweet setup you have there.[p]Excellent advice, thanks (to everyone).

McGuire,
It seems like we have lots of BGE'ers here in Florida, I am in New Port Richey my self. Just north of Tampa about 40 mins. Maybe some day we can have a big Florida BBQ with our eggs. Happy Egging [p]Pork Butt Mike

McGuireV10,
Where are you at in JAX.? I used to visit every year for a golf tournament. Still have friends down there.[p]Mike

McGuire,
haven't used it much but I'd second RRP's suggestion for a capper. they work great, but do get hot. Got mine at Lowes.

Car Wash Mike,[p]I'm out here on the Westside, within a few miles of the I10 and I295 interchange. If you're talking about a Ponte Vedra golf tournament, I'm probably about 45 minutes away from the beaches area.

McGuire,
I'm talking about Queens Harbour.[p]Mike

Richard,
Yes I know and can't wait for that one to come up again. I could not make it to this years. But will be there next year. Problem is, will there be hotels around or do we have to tent it. I am getting to old for tenting anymore.[p]LOL>>>>[p]Pork Butt Mike

Pork Butt,[p]This is where I stayed last year, tried the year before but it was bike week and at 9pm Fri they were full. less than 2 miles away and for $50 not bad.
