No love for the medium?

I'm a lurker with a desire to buy an Egg. Currently I live alone, but I'd like to think that won't last forever :) I'm not sure which size to buy, but I'm pretty sure the realistic choices are: S, M, L. I hear quite a bit about the S and the L, but really nothing about the M. Is it the best of both worlds, or just a bad compromise? [p]Thanks!

No such thing as a bad compromise when it comes to the BGE....You just buy the size that suits your needs.....that's all! XL - SM...It's all good![p]If you're going to be cooking for you and a significant other...a medium will do just fine....[p]Ed McLean

<p />ort5,[p]I have two Mediums and love them. I also live by myself, and find that I can move my Medium around by myself which comes in handy as well.[p]Check out the link below for stuff I've cooked on the Medium - sure, it does limit you in quantity and sometimes size (like turkeys) but if more often than not you're going to cook just for yourself it will be more than fine.[p]Of course, if you can afford one, I do have to recommend that you go ahead and get a Large - it's just nice to have that extra room when you really need it, and quite frankly, you'll start having a lot of new friends inviting themselves over for dinner.[p]TRex

    ort5,
look in the profiles for Gfw and give him a holler. He used to be an avid egger until he had to give it up, but he swore by his medium and used to defend it like his first born.

    ort5,
I have all of the eggs and use the medium the most. Most nights I'm cooking for three and it's a good fit.Saying all that if I could only have one it would be a large.

97.235% of the people who buy a medium either end up trading up to a large or adding a large and/or a small. OK, that's an estimate, but you get the idea. There are several medium owners that post regularly and I'm sure they will weigh in here. You won't be disappointed either way you go, but once your friends and family taste the great food you will be cooking, I think you'll wish you had gotten a large.[p]All the best,
    Jim

    ort5,
its just me here, and i have both a large and small, the large still gets used the most here. from mini to xl, i think the large is the best cooker.

Thanks for the great feedback guys. I'm pretty sure it will either be a M or a L. It looks like I really can't go wrong with either one.
Perhaps the best thing is for me to see one in person. Anybody near Boston feel like playing show and tell ;)

If I were in your shoes, I would base my consideration on weight / portability requirements. The BGE is so fuel efficient that cooking on a large is hardly a lump purchasing economic hardship. You can roll the Large around in its nest, but the medium is easier to heft if necessary.[p]Do you have a deep freeze? Do you like pulled pork? With a large you can use a standard platesetter and grid extender, cook 3 butts overnight, and freeze pulled pork in one pound increments.

The first eggg I got was a medium. I love the bajeebers outta it, and it's still the egg I use the most. I like it more than the large on accounta the dome is shorter, which does limit the food you can stack high up, but it also gots more heat bouncin off of it, so some things cook more betta in mine opinion. The medium also has the regular ass cessories like plate setters and such. you won't be sorry with the medium none in my stumpish opinion...[p]StumpBaby

ort5,[p]I started with the large and added the medium. I was going to go with the small, but decided I wanted something bigger. I primarily use the medium day to day with the large being used for entertaining and larger cooks. Fortunately for me both eggs were gifts. How lucky.[p]I now want a mini egg for tailgating. My wife is opposed. Of course she was opposed to the second egg until her family gave it to me for Christmas. :)

    ncegger,
The mini works for tailgating, as long as your not trying to feed a crowd. I'm cooking a chicken on the mini right now so I'll take a pic of that for the record. Before the chicken was a Chicago style hot dog (my reward) and before that was 4, 1/4 pounder sirloin burgers cooked two at a time. Yes sir, the mini is on a roll this evening.

    ort5,
I love my medium! It is the only egg I own, and is quite sufficient for our needs, even when feeding family and friends. Granted, I have never fed a huge group of people, but it is the perfect size as far as I am concerned.

After meeting you I know you don't need a crutch. But if you needed an edge you sure know how to use that Egg.
