Need some heat reduction PLEASE!

I made my bodacious pot of ham and bean soup today and I normally use 1 tea of chili powder in it, but I had none. Instead I used 1/2 tea of chipotle thinking I'd be ok. Well, it was dumb move as I know my wife will take one spoonful and that will be it! Any body have a solution on how to cut the heat?

Stir some yoghurt into your bowl. Dairy is good for heat reduction (at least on the way in).

Add some cut up Irish potatoes to it . But you might have to add a bit more salt also.

Thanks for all the ideas guys! What I ended up doing was twofold. First I stirred in 2 huge dollops of sour cream and that tamed it a bit but still had a kick to it. Then I added 3 heaping tablespoons of catsup. Both of those together took the sting out of it, but didn't change the over all taste!

Sorry, but no help here. I would barely notice 1/2 tsp of chipotle in a big pot of soup. Glad you came up with a solution.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Here is a tip for emergency use. If you ever find yourself short on potato’s, sour cream etc, etc, you can add a pair of pantyhose to dish for about 30 minutes. The pantyhose will pick up seasoning just like potatoes will, thus reducing the heat.
It almost goes without saying that you should use clean or unused pantyhose. But for the sake of clarity, i thought I would mention it just the same.

Tampons are also very effective. Some people prefer a maxipad, but I find that a maxipad is overkill, and you can regulate the amount of de-spicing with the number of tampons. Also, they can be tied to the pan handles like a teabag for easier retrieval.SGH said:@RRP

That being said, I have only had this issue when I put 1/3 c of cayenne in a pot of chili. How 1/2 t of chipotle would cause a problem boggles my mind(now only 16 stone)

Ron, you used pure dried chilis when you used the ground chipotle. It can be hot as it’s uncut. Standard chili powder is cayenne that is cut with cumin, onion powder, oregano, paprika etc. You might want to make your own chili powder using ancho or chipotle in lieu of the cayenne and adjust the heat accordingly.
