    You’ve got to have chunks of pork sausage, small potatoes, onions, lemons, crab boil spice, and maybe corn on the cob and mushrooms to go with your shrimp or  crawfish. At least that is the Gulf Coast version.

    This, plus some other popular additions are artichokes, brussel sprouts, heads of garlic, mussels, and you can even do a whole turkey (looks like hell but delicious).   Timing is everything, throw the stuff that takes longer to cook in first so you don't overcook the quick cooking stuff.  Shrimp should be the last thing you add.  After you bring to a rolling boil shut off the heat.  Cool it down by adding frozen corn.  Hose on the outside of the pot.  You can over salt and throw in a bag of ice.  Then soak.  Longer, the spicier.
