Rib Roast Question

It's my beautiful wife's birthday celebration tomorrow. I have an 8lb tied rib roast. Want to slow roast it @ 250 with a little applewood smoke. Needs to be done between 2:30-3pm. Looking for medium rare in the middle. Can anyone give me a ballpark time to get it on the EGG.

Thanks!

If it wasn't for my BGE I'd have no use for my backyard...

The last one I did went on at 250 till the IT was around 120, pulled it and let it rest for a couple of minutes. Removed the platesetter and cranked the egg to 700 and seared it both sides for a minute or so then let it rest again for a while before slicing. Cant remember how long total time was but thinking and hour to hour and half maybe.

1.5hrs is my guess add  Time for lighting stabilized and rest

Better to under cook than overcook... I would say 2 hrs or less @ 250. But read on:

One time for Christmas i did a 7 bone prime rib roast over direct heat at the beginning.... 15 lbs and i seared on all sides for about 2 mins per side including the ends, which was a trick to hold upright but welding gloves were my best friend that day.   Then i put platesetter on, set the roast on grate with a drip pan underneath the grate that had white wine, minced onion, shallot and garlic plus a stick of  celery and carrot stick in it.  closed lower vent 90% of the way and had watermelon seed slivers up top and let it cook for about 2 hours, maybe 2.5 hr.   I think avg temp was about 300.  Started at 550 and it gradually dropped to 225.  Mesquite lump, el diablo, didnt use any extra flavoring wood.   After 2-2.5 hrs i shut it down up top and down at the bottom and came back in another hour.

Perfection was achived with med rare, crispy crust/ end pieces and pan drippings for gravy that was incredible. Honestly i had no idea what i was doing but the big green egg was my reasoning to mommas side of the family to entrust Christmas Day main dish with me.  This was one of the first things i ever made on the BGE and it was incredible.People still talk about it.  Made homemade creamy horseradish sauce and the food, thanks to bge was amazing.

    Happy Bday to momma!
