When I last used my BGE I cooked 2 boston butts for 17 hours. I placed a drip pan under the grill and the butts right on the grill. Yesterday when I went to use my BGE the grill, the ceramic ring, the dome and some of the left over lump was covered with mold(it looked like an old loaf of bread). Has anyone seen this before? It probably was 3 weeks between usage. I scrubed the grill got the temp to 400 and let it stabilize for 10 -15 min. before using. Would anybody do anything differently?

John,[p]3 weeks without using the egg? Did you go vegetarian?

John,[p]Woulda just got it up to nuke temps without scrubbing, closed the lid, and listened to it scream as it withered and died. But that's me (or been watching too many Twilight Zone reruns).[p]I'm sure it's fine.[p]mShark

John,
Yeah - not wait so long between cooks!!![p]This happens, you can try and clean up any spills the next day after the cook, or you can bring the temp of the egg up to around 400 or 500 degrees and burn off any spills. Really what you did is fine and your egg is unharmed.

John,
I have an entry in my Ceramic FAQ about mold, if that will help:[p]TNW
