Creasol build up

What can you do to get rid of creasol(black tar) build up on the inside top half of the cooker? I have enough build up that it now runs down the inside top half when hot and makes the top and bottom halves stick together like glue when it cools. Have a similar problem with the rotary wheel on top getting gumed up and not moving freely when cold.

    Ron Powell,[p]Sounds like it's time for a health burn for old Mr. Egg. Start with a clean lower firebox and unclogged coal grate and fill the firebox 3/4 full with fresh lump. Leave the chimney uncovered, start a fire and adjust lower intake to hold 500-600* for several hours. After Humpty has cooled down, the buildup should have been reduced to a dry and flaky coating, much of which may them be removed with a DRY, stiff bristled brush. You don't want to remove all of this "seasoning' just the loose excess. Sudsy ammonia will dissolve the sludge buildup in your daisy wheel. Just place it upside down in a shallow container filled with a sufficient depth to cover the working surfaces. By the time your Egg is done, the daisy will be also.[p]K~G

    Nuttin much more to add, altho I keep a large coffee can with the plastic top seal and its perfect to set the large to small caps in and soak em. Just a outside chance someone might wanna try it..heeeyaaaa...go Giants Go..oh..they already lost??

    Ron Powell, How old...be carefull and do a gradual run up if its beyond 1994 or so...They have improve the exterior shell since then. Much higher heat tolerance. If you have the older one, kinda hold it down to 600 or less.
