ok, so SciAggie's latest thread has me hankering for a nice thick rib eye fired on the BGE. This is my first egg and I only have 2 low temp cooks on it so far. The question is "How many low heat cooks SHOULD one do before it is ok to crank 'er up and start doing 600 degree steaks and some pizza?

If you're worried (you shouldn't be), fire up the egg a couple of hours early and let it chug along at 275-300 until you're ready to start those steaks.

Let it roll. You've got a lifetime warranty on the ceramics.

The first cook would have been OK for me 600 is nothing happens at Eggfest all the time!

I'm assuming you didn't notice any smoke leaking from the gasket line. The dome slipped a bit when I set up my 1st Egg. My 3rd cook went to 600, and about 8" of gasket towards the back turned to ash. The other problem, uncured adhesive failing, isn't much of a hazard.

When we purchased my egg I was told by the sales associate to keep it under 300 the firsts few times. Didn't listen and everything seems fine
