I love the BGE two prong tool. It takes a little while but easy if you cook off most of the crud... no worries about bits of wire is worth the work IMO

Fire-just burn it off. Then if you still have some chunkies I use a putty knife to scrape. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

I have the bge tool mentioned above and it works well, but I've also had lots of luck using the grill gripper as a scraper.Large BGE

I use heat and/or foil. Heat just because it's there after (and before) every cook and foil because, well, no real reason. So I rarely use it.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Try these. You'll love them. https://www.amazon.com/Elevate-Essentials-Pumice-Cleaning-Griddles/dp/B01LQE736M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496619442&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=Grill+block&psc=1Coleman, Texas
Large BGE & Mini Max for the wok. A few old camp Dutch ovens and a wood fired oven. LSG 24” cabinet offset smoker. There are a few paella pans and a Patagonia cross in the barn. A curing chamber for bacterial transformation of meats...
"Bourbon slushies. Sure you can cook on the BGE without them, but why would you?"

I just bought a new grill brush this afternoon made by Char Broil:
http://www.target.com/p/char-broil-174-cool-clean-scrub-brush/-/A-50049518?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=PLA_Patio+Garden+Shopping&adgroup=SC_Patio+Garden&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=s&device=c&location=9029827&gclid=CjwKEAjw387JBRDPtJePvOej8kASJADkV9TL-AoZKlX4WtPx09bVY6HQGbOjtgEtUKZAL9bfPQjhTRoCx2fw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
I wanted something I could use with the grill still in the Egg in the low position, and that I could bear down on. The bristles seen extra-stout, we'll see if the handle can withstand lard-butt bearing down on it.
EDIT: Heh, I just noticed it got a one-star review, the "handle broke on the first use!" Guess I could thread a bolt through the open end of the handle into the base...

I use two things depending on how bad the last cook left my grate. One is a stainless steel putty knife and the other is this home made wooden paddle. When it gets worn down I just cut it back to a new set of holes.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I'm leaning toward the two prong tool or something similar to it.

No, guys, I don't, but even if I did it would be more effective than banging their butt up close and personal with a mere foil ball in hand - don'tchaknow?Re-gasketing America one yard at a time.

I like this one from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NAI42EZ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Seems like the price fluctuates. I paid $9.95 for mine about 6 weeks ago; then $6.95 for another one that I bought for my sister. Now I see it is $12.95Normal, IL
