So I have a Large Egg that I bought about 6 years ago not sure how old it is, it has the  5 spots in the fire ring, used( i know I know but $600 with a table),
and Lately I have seen some cases when the lids have came off and smashed on the ground, well  this made me look at mine.  the bands feel tight , however the bolts are not bent,

what to do

Tighten the bolts until they bend and check every 90 days or so. I just installed a new band assembly this morning and in the directions BGE recommends checking all the nuts and bolts every day, even shows a graphic of a calendar.

My band bolts are bent about the same Brent's. I assembled it myself in August 2009 and loosened the bottom band a few months later to install Mates. They have seen some 900° cooks, though not for a long time. After the Mates, I never checked 'em again until sometime in 2016. Just as tight as they were the last time I looked. YMMV.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

10.42 foot pound = 125 inch pounds (for the MBGE circa 2012) or about 14.1 Newton meters. Doubt the HF wrench will have Nm, but they do have a great inch pound wrench..

This is cheap insurance if you're that worried about it.

I know some will frown on this, but for me, I found the nuts loosened under heat.  I figured it out after realigning my lid many times only to have it fall out of alignment again.  The nuts would loosen and when I lifted my lid, the bands would slip.  To resolve this, I tightened cold to the prescribed torque and then after heating up a bit, I would tighten them another turn or so. No more alignment problem.  I would give it a torque under a bit of heat to make sure you are snug.  Good luck

@4Runner - I can't imagine anyone here frowning on your suggestion.  Only makes sense, especially when new.  Gotta love them tight nuts  ;)

I am convinced that the metal bands stretch under heat.  If you had marked your "nuts" you have saw that they did not turn at all.  Bands at a certain point stop stretching.
