if its cement now, i would leave it cement. i have pegboard on one wall, shelves on another. the pegboard comes in handy, anything that would normally get lost hangs on itfukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it

It's just bare studs at the moment

Are you planning to hang material on it? Maybe use it for dust collection system?

Hanging a couple of small tools but no major weight support
dust system is free standing -
Ok. So bare studs. Want to hang tools.
Is yhis an exterior wall or interior wall? Do you need soundproofing if it's an interior wall?
If it was my badement and I was going to be spending a lot of time down there, I'd drywall it then hang some peg board off some 2x2's screwed into the studs. I would also have music with the wires in-wall. But, i would not put expensive receivers and amps, ets. That equipment needs to have good ventilation and if you are kicking up lots of sawdust, you will clog them up.LBGE #19 from North GA Eggfest, 2014

if your going to drywall it use the 5/8 green board that is used in bathrooms for the walls, 1/2 inch regular sheet rock for the ceilings, put lots of lighting in, cant have too much lighting

@DaveRichardson its interior walls the carving room will be seperate from the painting room . (Painting room also going to have deep freezes and washer and dryer )
don't necessarily need sound proofing .. I'll have projects in various stages.. And I can also use hand tools vs power carver if my lady is upstairs trying to sleep
i am going to have a tv on the paint side. But no sound system or anything
..imagine the basement literally being split in 1/2

I think 1/2" plywood is an excellent choice for shop walls. Paint it white and it is both easy to clean and resistant to moisture. Also you never have to worry about hitting studs when hanging something.
