What is the best Mandolin Slicer

It's time for a new Mandolin ..I want the best I can get as my last one lasted me 18 years.

What are everyone's recommendations?

I purchased the $100 one from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It's adequate, but no where near the best I am sure. It will still take the tip of your finger off though if you're not paying attention.

How often do you plan to use it? It is for meat only? How much heavy meat use will you throw at it? Cooked meat only or raw meat or both? Is storing it an issue? Looking for replaceable blade(s)?

I had a $39 one that really sucked. It was more dangerous than helpful. I recently bout one at BB&B(I think). It has preformed great for what I've used it for.

Me? - I have a cheep "Food Network" brand mandolin that works great for the small use I throw at it and it cost me under $30 as recall. Looks like I better back out of this conversation now!

@RRP thanks Ron, I just bought the Bron Original off Amazon with free shipping. I had a Boerner V slicer since ...gosh....probably 1996. Maybe I will try slicing some meat for jerky as I don't have a slicer

We have a basic Boerner model and have been very satisfied, but honestly don't have occasion to use it a whole lot.

Check out an MIU. There are a bunch on eBay and look for the one that does not have the removable blades. I believe they call it the professional model. I have one and it is SHARP. Also it does not have any silly anti cut yourself protection. So use extreme caution. Look up 90797 and 90799 model numbers.

they still make them

i have this version at the camp. they changed the blade from carbon to stainless though, not as sharp but you dont have to keep up with your shots

im not sure what the plastic things for, i threw it out with the box

I've had a Bron for over twenty years. Still razor sharp. Never thought to do meat on it but it makes a lot of sense. I only pull the slicer out for a lot of meat because of the cleaning.

I got the Bron about ten years ago. Not the easiest one to use, but very versatile and will last a lifetime. It has always performed flawlessly for me.

I don't find it hard to use. You have to do larger onions and potatoes without the guard for the first half. This is where my ADD creates a problem.

I would spend the extra six bucks to get a new one too.

I have the de Buyer Professional French Stainless Steel Mandoline. Got it as a wedding gift from Williams Sonoma...one of those things we registered for and were then like, "damn...somebody actually bought it for us!"

Seems pretty darn solid and high quality every time I use it. I do find I have to reset the cut thickness on occasion, but I don't use it that often so could be doing something wrong. That said, I'm sure you can get one that works just as well for much cheaper....but, if price is not issue, pick one up. I'm sure WS has a good return policy.
