I bought two sets of Grill Grates from CGS and today was the day to try 'em out. One set only covers 1/2 of the XL cooking surface. Since Grill Grates are famous for the grill marks they make, why not test it with steak?
Today I reverse seared 2" ribeyes. I'm using my phone so pardon the picture quality. Photos coming shortly.

They make grill grates for the XL that cover the whole cooking area.

Fred, that steak looks great, but you did that corn perfectly too.Phoenix

Something I like about the grates they are almost indirect. You can set the egg at 450 or so and cook the steaks on the grates the whole time no need to go indirect. Gives a great crust.

You can also turn them over and use them like a plancha or CI pan. Nice post.

Fred - what do you see as the advantage of these over a standard CI grill? Just easier to get on and off?"I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

@JohnInCarolina one benefit is that you can cook at lower temps and achieve the same or superior results. Uses less fuel.
Care and cleaning are also a benefit. No rust.
For the record, I've always been a cast iron guy, but I certainly see these as a great new tool. -
I have a set for my gas grill, and they are absolutely amazing on that thing. Even, great surface caramelization, beautiful results every time. But when it's time for steak, I kind of prefer the intense raw heat that my direct Egg gives me. I don't want grill marks; I want a uniform, deep crust. I've never been able to do that with grillgrates.Minimax and a wood-fired oven.
