Babybacks and membrane?

I bought some babybacks today for New Years Eve. Opened them up and no membrane to remove. Has anybody bought any of these? They were cry-o-vac packed at a local grocer. First time i ever saw them and I used to be in the grocery business for over 20 years.[p]CWM

    ep. i have occasionally seen ones that were ripped off. I guess if it is convenient for the meat packer (maybe a flap is hanging after he cuts them, so he rips it off). No rhyme or reason, but every 20 or 30 slabs seems to have it removed. just what I have found.[p]happy new year

    I buy them all the time as do many here. I have gotten one that did not have a membrane but it was rare! More often I "thought" there was no membrane but it was obvious after the cook that there was. Maybe someone removed it for another reason when packing - feel lucky but don't expect it all the time. [p]BTW, I buy them in the 3 pack, remove membranes and rewrap in plastic and freeze. I rarely need 3 racks of ribs but I often cook just one for the family of 3. Works for me.[p]Tim

    Car Wash Mike, I get them without membrane every time - but then, I guess my local (I try to support my local merchants) friendly butcher removes them - the ribs (see post below) have (and hopefully again tonight)always turned out about perfect :~]

    Car Wash Mike:[p]I purchase by the case and much to my surprise on the last few cases there was no membrane. I kinda like it that way!
