<p />My egg and I are pleased with how the tables turned out (This is my first attempt at posting a pic so, I hope you can see it). The granite really came out nice. I scored these pieces of granite free when a cabinet guy moved out of my building so I basically built the tables around the granite sizes. I had a shop in Richmond that has a water jet cut the hole for me. I used the center of the cutout for the bottom egg support. It is seriously heavy! I will be firin' it up tomorrow am on two butts for a company party. Thanks to all of you (especially The Naked Whiz) for the table ideas and images.[p]Steve[p]"It's a good thing my Mama ain't here!"

Slap-Yo-Mama[p]I am envious. I hope the one I am building comes out as nice. One thing - I think someone said you still need the little green feet under the egg to allow air circulation to cool the bottom. Any comments out there?

BOBF,[p]Yea, The granite got pretty warm the other night and I was only at 350 degrees. I am going to try the trick Fishless suggested - He says I could put the egg on three quarters and this small airspace will keep the temp down on the granite. The granite is pretty thick - about 1 1/4"

Bordello,[p]I didn't want to spend too much on it so I just used Pressure treated pine (and alot of sandpaper). The stain is actually the same stain I used on my deck. It is a redwood colored semi-transparent deck stain.

Very, very nice!!!
and to keep it that way I still believe you need the green ceramic feet. Here's why - while the 3 quarters will give a tiny amount of space the heat will still move right on through to that beautiful round 1 1/4" thick granite slab underneath and water trapped under the slab and in the wood table will turn to steam. I was a non-believer and sat my large directly on a 2 1/2" thick exposed aggregate concrete thinking the aggregate left ample air space. Well - it didn't and when that stone broke it was like an explosion.

Because of limited space... that actually looks like about the size I was thinking for mine (that's a large egg no?). Something small like that but nicer (and higher up) than the stock nest.[p]I don't know if I could afford a custom cut granite top (LOL) but I could figure something out!
