I installed my rutland this weekend also. Mine was not quite that clean of a job, think I used too much permatex.

You can trim the excess Permatex after 24 hours using a sharp utility knife. In time it will fade in color. The only concern is if it oozed up excessively through the braid and now resides on the surface.GaBGE said:I installed my rutland this weekend also. I did exactly that Ron. Just waited the 24 and used a utility knife to get the excess. Comes off very clean and easy. Loved using a jigsaw blade to butter the sealant on. That really helped with the right amount. All your tips were dead on!RRP said:

I used the first 2" of a 10" zip tie, the 2" was near the base (where you feed it through itself) it is stiff enough to butter the permatex evenly.rlnewman said:

I did a 700 degree clean burn... My Rutland stuck.Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

Sorry man but seeing the Rutland withstands 2,200 degrees then 700 degrees points toward that debris you showed recently on your gasket had to have liquified and then grabbed your dome. I didn't apply it in a large bead. I held the tube at an angle and worked it back and forth across the rim as I was squeezing it out. It was spread using the nozzle on the tube while it was being applied. I did not need to use any tool to spread it as that wouldn't have improved my application.RRP said:
