My go-to 15 minute dinner

this has been one of my favorites lately. 

1st, quick and easy pot roast vegetables - carrots, onions and red potatoes. Mix in a little salt and paper, soy and water. Garlic powder. Press the 5 minute button. And boom!

2nd - ny strips. About 3/4 inch or less thick. (Picked these up at Winn Dixie last week for 10 dollars) Cast iron blazing hott on the mini. And 1 minute flips until 125 to 130 ish.

    @Bart1434 not sure where you live, or your budget. But I have had great luck with finding cast iron at the flea market. Sometimes its rusty and old. But a quick season in the oven and it's good as new

  • Thank you slovelad .  Until recently, I had never cooked anything other than burgers, hot dogs, and steaks.  Some of the fabulous cooks I see on here are interesting, but I REALLY appreciate seeing a quick, simple meal like this.  I will have to add this to my to do list.   Thanks again.

    @FarmerTom if you like quick meals. A pressure cooker is a must.

    Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

    Love this cook.  Quick and easy.  I use the exact same method except I lean towards the ribeye.  Good work!

    I too would like to know what device the five minute button resides on. Microwave? Pressure cooker? I'm sure it's a pressure cooker since this forum is so good at removing money from my wallet!

    @northGAcock @volfan1 sorry for the confusion. Wvrything except the ateak was done in the pressure cooker.

    i have used that thing every day since I've had it. It makes amazing rice, chicken, veggis, and everything else I've thrown at it.

    i would have never bought one, but now I won't live without one

    You know I enjoy cooking on my cast iron for a good sear, however each I time I do a steak this way indoors I smoke the place up and set off all the smoke alarms. I see you seared it off on the egg.


    Sometimes in the dead of winter I try the indoor sear, from a flavor standpoint it is severely lacking compared to the egg. 

    Does anybody sear indoors or is this strictly and outdoor on the egg method?

  • Looks very good, like the under pressure veggies. Why use the egg for a CI sear? Suppose if you do not have a HOB or Wok burner it may make sense. I like the CI sear and use a bit of Ghee (clarified butter) to develop the crust, the smoke point is about 500ºF and it works very well.
