They are good grilled with a maple rub. McCormicks Smokehouse Maple, or maybe Dizzy Pig Ragin River.

@BiggreenpharmacistMy father in law cuts the sweet potatoes in "1/4 to 1/2 coins" puts olive oil and old bay seasoning and tosses. Bakes on a cookie sheet. I believe it a cooks illustrated recipe. I've had them many times and they are pretty darn good.Kennesaw Ga. XL Egg. Cheers, Kevin

Pineapplehead from Dizzy Pig is excellent with sweet potatoes.
I've baked them rubbed with EVO, and planked them direct with Pineapplehead. When I ran out I used turbinado sugar and ground cayenne with some sea salt as a substitute. -

I bake them all the time on a pizza stone on the grilling grid, 375-400 for an hour or more. I just set them on the stone after washing nothing else, I check them every now and again and turn them when they are getting black on the bottom. they are done when they start to ooze sweet caramelized goodness out of the end. The skin will most likely be black and even look burnt but the inside will be oh so good and all you will need is just a little butter.

I just baked some tonight ( had blowing rain so didnt light my egg) and then just mashed them with butter, and touch of brown sugar, and a heavy dose of rsgin river rub. They were pretty darn good. They were sweet but still kinda savory too. All they needed was a little kiss of smoke.

The slower you bake them, the sweeter they are.
