Best way to get coals going

I spent ~ $15 on a Wagner heat gun. It has forced air and gets up to 1k° pretty quickly. For smoking, I just ignite one spot in the center, and for grilling I hit three spots just off center. Within 10-15 seconds the coals are lit, and another five seconds with that air blowing over 'em gets 'em roaring. I'm ready to grill in under 30 mins.

The blow torch method works for me. Cheap and easy. No mess. One large BGE in Louisville, KY.

I picked up a propane torch at Home Depot and have some napkins soaking in oil. That should do it!

Any idea how long a canister lasts? I picked up 2 spares, but just curious. -
Quick start is great, but I still like to let the VOC's burn off. Ten or fifteen minutes with a chimney and then another ten or so for any new lump to clean up gives a good smelling fire.
Add smoking wood and when the back yard smells like apple smoke put on the meat.

I have been using a $18 heat gun from Ace hardware for about a year and half and wouldnt trade it for anything. 3-5 minutes and flames will be blazing. Adjust time depending on the temp your shooting for. Ive tried the oil rags, cubes, chimneys, heating elements, nothing comes close. Set it directly on the coals for about one minute, then remove it, add the grate, and set it on the grate pointed at the coals for a couple more minutes. All you need is an electrical outlet, never run out of propane, etc...

Hmmm, can't post the link. Lookup "youtube leaf blower chiminea".
Seen the youtube.. nope, not me. I had to get my XL up to temp for pizza once... had the blue flames coming maybe 2 ft out of the top and being at night was kind-of cool looking. Still waited 30 minutes to make sure the stone was fully up to temp. -
I am torn between a Mapp Torch and the Harbor Freight weed burner. I have both and have been switching it up. The weed burner is slightly quicker, but I have to move my big propane tank around and sometimes my fires don't get centered as good as I would like since the flame is huge.
-
I just usually use a starter cube but if I need to speed things up, I will hold an old air mattress pump on the fire for a minute or so and its amazing how fast it speeds up.
-
Don't know the best way but the manliest is using a weed burner from Harbor Freight with one hand and holding a beer in the other.
