Help - Need a new egg, advice needed

Hello all,

After spending another Thanksgiving away from home and without an egg, I've decided to add a 2nd egg to the collection. Quite a few times a year, our family of 4 (including 2 small kids) spend time in central Oregon, about 3 hours from home. Currently, I have an XL, which I'm not going to try to transport, but I'm not sure about which size I should get now. Ultimately, I'd love to be able to spatchcock a small (12 lb) turkey. Originally, I had thought about the MM and I know I could cook the turkey in it, but not spatchcocked. Am I right about that? Is the medium small enough that it is (somewhat) easily portable? I have plenty of room in the vehicle.

if you removed the legs and repositioned them on the grate a spatchcocked bird would fit the small

I have a medium and an XL, medium is easy enough to move, I contemplated tailgating with it.

I would highly recommend the small. It is easy to pick up for one person (like a minimax) but it holds a lot of charcoal and you can smoke a pretty large shoulder on it without messing with it (like a medium). It gets a lot of action at my house and on the road.

If transporting a medium is no problem for you, then I would recommend a medium. Medium is my go-to egg. Faster to temp and less limited on your cooks due to space than a small.

Another vote for a medium. I have an XL and medium. The medium is easy to move. If you remove the fire box and ring it is relatively easy for 1 person to carry.

Looks like I'll be in the market for a medium.

We head to the Bend area a few times a year. A couple times with the family to Brasada and then various golf guys trips throughout the year as well to various places where we can rent houses or cabins (sun river, black butte, etc.)

The medium is a great size for cooking, but I would not say it is very portable.
