Anyone watch the Barefoot Contessa episode today? Bobby Flay had a brand spanking new XL cooking their turkey and didn't hide the branding like on his show (and lately has been removed).

One thing I found interesting is he only filled a chimney starter up and dumped in the firebox, nothing more (unless after the fact). He soaked his pe-can chips too.

It was quite funny as that is an XXL and yes he put in some dripping wet chips as Bobby alwasys says to soak your chips. By the time he put the turkey in the egg it was completly done "smoking". Got to love the power of television. It was blindingly white

Our charcoal was on a local cooking show once. The host was demonstrating how to start it with a chimney starter--it was overflowing with lump. She said "we'll give this a few minutes", and then it faded to "minutes later". It must have been an hour later because when she dumped it into the Weber, there was maybe a handful of ash colored charcoal left. Haha.

I agree, that was an XL, and yeah he did baste. I may do some basting myself, but likely just melted butter.

There's no way that chimney will hold the amount of lump to go for 4hrs plus in an XL.

A bit late with a comment but did anyone notice that he rammed the thermo pen hard until he hit a bone in the thigh. Disappointing portrayal of our dear green egg!

Flay is a Fockstik............ a Rachel Ray that uses charcoal.
Ten years or so ago, he threw the water pan directly on top of the charcoal using the WSM.
