Having a Stoker (or any pit controller) is almost cheating!

Options
Got up early before work today.  Got my LBGE all happy and fired up.  Set my Stoker II to 240F about 7:15a.  Let 'er roll for 45 minutes for nice clear smoke with some apple chunks.  Threw on my pork butt and headed to work.  Just watching my temp all day is a blast - and rock solid, too.  It feels like I'm cheating.  Can't wait to get home!

    I agree it feels like cheating but I love using mine.  Set it and forget it...

    Same with the flame boss 200!  Love it, best thing for long slow cooks.  BgE is stable, but it gives piece of mind so I can go do other stuff all day or sleep all night!

    And when using it overnight, when you wake up, just look at your phone to check it and then go back to sleep. It's a great tool to have.

    I've been thinking about getting one.  Can you tell me the exact model/brand that you have, and where I can get it? I love the idea of being able to monitor from my iPhone...thanks!

    I have the Stoker II wi-fi.  I opted for the longer 6' cables.

    If I ever get more probes they will be the longer ones. The original ones are a little too short.

    Looking for positives/negatives of either the Flame Boss, and the Stoker II.  I'm going to order one today, just undecided on which one.  Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you...

    @Bullhalsey ... might I suggest that you PM  Jonathan ( @stlcharcoal ), get a phone number from him, and talk with him ... ask for a quote on the Flame Boss.  He's been hands on with control units for quite awhile and can give you very good guidance.  Very few folks on the forum own and use both of the units you're contemplating ... myself included. I researched the forum heavily when contemplating the Stoker, but went with a Guru DXII instead.  When the Flame Boss 200 came out, I bought the first one my dealer ordered.

    The Stoker II requires some IT knowledge when setting it up.  It's expandable if you want to add more probes or blowers.  That versatility costs.

    The Flame Boss 200 hooks up to the internet like a computer ... even I can do that.  It handles one egg only ... no expansion capability.  That lack of versatility saves you money.

    Jeepster, thank you.  I am looking for simplicity, and only need capability for my one large BGE.  So your input is greatly appreciated.

    You can use 1/4" stereo plug wire extensions.

    @Toxarch thanks. I don't know why I didn't think of that.

    @Cookbook_Chip - it is cheating but who cares!  Works great.

    @Bullhalsey - I have had great luck with the Stoker. If you can read a manual and follow instructions you are up and running in 15 minutes.  I like remote access and the extra ports on my Stoker comes in handy when I running with 4 butts on the Egg.  Good luck.

    Got spare ribs on the grill right now. Easy to hold temp, go to the store and not worry about it. Started playing with Stoker Log today.

    Cool!  I use PitPal on my iPad. Haven't tried a Windows app yet. Been toying about making my own.
