Fire Ring Orientation ???

Every time I want to lift the fire ring out of my new Large BGE, I struggle getting under the lower edge to lift it. It ssems like it would be better to tunr it over so the smooth indentations are on the bottom, providing a convenient place to insert fingers an lift. When I lok at the BGE product diagram, it shows the indentations on the top edge. Any knowledgeable users out there who have solid reasons why it should go one way or the other?? Obviously, turning the indentations down will allow some of the very hot temps from the coals to access the sides of the cooker in those areas.
Please help, as I am about to light up soon for some super babybacks!
