Some Wives Just Dont Get It!

The back story: I have had my large egg for several years. I have it in a nest sitting on a flame proof fiber mat on the back deck. I dont have a table or even the "wings". So when I cook, I set things on the deck railing. Not the best situation for sure, but I haven't had any major losses yet. I have thought about building a table from day one, but only sort of like the basic wood designs. I have aspirations of doing a nice outdoor kitchen area, but we need to other (read:"expensive") outdoor things before that, so that is a ways off. I have wanted a table that was nice, but I didnt have a ton of money or time into.
So I have been thinking about options for tables, and I ran across the design a few have that uses an inexpensive, adjustable SS table from Sams Club where a hole is cut and trimmed and viola you have a table. I think it looks great, its definitely inexpensive, and I can do that with my eyes closed.
So, I was discussing it with her and showed her a picture of it on the computer. She looks at it and then looks at me and says, "Why do you have to cut a hole in it? Why dont you just set the table NEXT to the egg and use it like that."
"Well, dear, because.....um...you see....it's like this.......and uhhhh......well uh. But this one goes to 11."
Some wives just dont understand.
What would your reply be? And/or do any of you just use a nest and a basic table next to it.

I agree with your wife. I would rather have the extra work space and keep the egg in the nest next to the table.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Maybe it's just me, but I was never comfortable with the stability of my large in its nest. Especially with my rambunctious chocolate lab running around. That's why I built simple metal table for it. @jabam ... It might not be Lab proof, but adding a handler to the nest greatly improves the stability of the egg within the nest. It doesn't improve the nest/handler/egg combination relative to tipping over - which I think was your concern - but, it really locks the egg into the nest.jabam said:Maybe it's just me, but I was never comfortable with the stability of my large in its nest. Yes the tipping was my concern, especially with my patio consisting of pavers. The handler looks like a great addition though!Jeepster47 said:

Mai built this table for less than 100 bucks. Found some solid old pallets, and the most expemsive part was the wheels. Only took me half a day or so -

Keep it in the nest next to the table. That's what I did. I built my table out of old pallets and a coupla 2x4s

Guess I'm in the minority - I'd rather have my egg in the table. Seems more secure to me. I dunno about cutting a hole in a stainless table, though. Seems like it would leave a sharp edge. I'd rather throw together a wood table personally.

@jimithing I don't hate the idea of a table, just my table. I'd rather have my egg in a nest that is built into the work space rather than have it live in the table. Not sure that makes sense, but I know what I mean.

If you have a rambunctious dog or young child, the table model does give you better tip-and-break-humpty-dumpty-style protection than the nest. A fall like that is DEVASTATING.
