Planning a guys trip to Biloxi to gamble, fish, and gamble some more. Looking at the IP hotel resort? Any experience there? @sgh may know. Other options? I know the Beau Rivage is the most well known. Anyone know any good red fishing guides? Open to all suggestions, thanks.

Go to @Thatgrimguy to eat. The back yard would be worth the trip!

Any of the casinos would be a good place to stay. You would be within seconds of the Gulf at any of them. There are several to chose from in Biloxi alone. Harrahs, The Hard Rock, Golden Nugget, Treaure Bay, Boomtown, The Palace, Beau Rivage and The Imperial Palace. There is a couple right next door in Gulfport and D'Iberville. As far as fishing charters, right beside the Hard Rock casino there is over 20 right there between the casino and the Biloxi Bait Shop.  Right down the road there are several more. I haven't used any of them in a while but they were all pretty good back when I was using them. Some of them cater to inshore only and some inshore or offshore. Naturally the offshore costs more. I haven't priced Hotels down here in a while, but at one time it was cheaper to stay at the casinos versus motel/hotels.

The IP is ok but the gulf side casinos are better IMO.  We like the Golden Nugget and they have fishing charters there as well.

We stayed at the Beau Rivage and saw cirque du soleil.  The place is nice however we ended up in a smoking room and it was so incredibly obnoxious we could barely sleep.  I did some token gambling - lost $20.  I'm not a gambler.

Be sure to eat at "The Shed" BBQ in Ocean Springs a few miles East of Biloxi.  Unique place and the BBQ is pretty good.  They have live entertainment some nights.

We always stay at Harrahs because we get free rooms due to gambling at other Caesar's propertiers.

Last time I stayed at Beau Rivage (also for cirque) they tried to put us in a smoking room too (even though I had nonsmoking reserved).  I b!tched enough that they put us in one of the high roller suites.

We stopped at the Shed a couple of weeks ago.  I agree that it was pretty good, and definitely an interesting place.  They are raking in cash.  The pulled pork was much better than the brisket, IMO.

Fellows, not trying to be different, but the last couple of times that we ate at the Shed it was mediocre at best. I will agree that it's a very unique place no doubt. They use to do a pretty good job consistently. Now it's real hit or miss. At one time they had about as good of sausage as you could hope for. Maybe I caught them on a couple of off nights.

The new golden Nugget is really nice, the IP is nice. The Beau is overpriced. The Hard rock is a great choice if you can get in. Hard Rock right next to the small craft harbor.

I agree with @SGH the shed is just as commercial as Dickeys now. It's a better place to drink a beer and hear some blues than it is to get dinner.

You are welcome to come up to my place on the river for some BBQ. I bet we can talk @SGH into coming over as well.

Thanks everyone. I ended up booking The Palace. Great rates, newly renovated (according to their site), great reviews, and smoke free.

I like the Palace due to the smoke free environment. And it is pretty nice. When will you be down?

I always forget about the palace. It is really nice since they remodeled it. I have never seen the rooms though.

Not as good as April and May but will still be pretty good. If you are going offshore to the deep water you will do good. Inshore maybe a little hit and miss. You can usually still do real good around the reefs going after white trout that time of the year. Out by the rigs in the deep water the Pompano really get hot around mid to late September just depending on the water temp. Once it's starts dropping the Pompano go crazy. If you are chartering, those fellows will put you on to something.

When you are on your way down, give me a heads up. If I'm off of night shift I will take you out to a couple of hot spots for white (sand) trout around the barrier islands. Won't cost you a thing. I love to white trout fish. You can swing by the abode and check out the big units as well. Number is 228-627-5400. Name is Scottie.

I'm over 50% certain Scottie isn't a serial killer unless your name is Cazzy. ;)  (I kid!  I kid!)

@sgh very cool, and kind of you to offer. I'll PM you with all the details later. Thanks man. Name is Kevin

We were hoping to do some inshore/near shore stuff. I enjoy deep sea, but am nuts about those darn red fish and trout.

There are a couple of reefs right off of Deer Island where you can slaughter the white trout. Two weeks ago we caught 116 in under a hour. We were double rigged and pulling in two every cast. We can be out there in just minutes if we launch in Biloxi. I know a hippy in New Orleans that may come over and fish with us too ;)

I'd suggest eating at Mary Mahoney's if you get a chance and you want to enjoy a local experience.

If you have time to come by the house, I have a new unit that I haven't posted yet. Have been waiting for brisket camp to debut it. We will put first fire to it and trial run it with a brisket if you have time. It's a big one brother. It's worth coming to see if you like offsets. It dwarfs Unit #7.

@ksmyrl - I've got a good buddy who lives down there who fishes a great deal for reds and other swim-enabled food sources.  Let me hit him up for some info on a charter....  He's in Pascagoula, MS just a little east of Biloxi....  Who knew you could make a killing RENTING people their rims on their cars????

If I may ask, what is the name of your friends charter? I ask because I have a home just straight north of Pascagoula. Was born and raised in the area. Just curious if I know him or know of his charter.

@SGH not sure if he runs charters, but I always see him fishing off a black hydra sport with 4 300's hanging off the stern!  Upgrading to 450's soon!

I was curious if he was one of the Delcambrys. I use to work with the youngest one years ago. They are good folks for sure

Nope. He doesn't charter, but he has a fishing problem like we have a BBQ problem. He's going to check with his friends who run charters. His last name is Woods. He married into the Baber family from down there. They run the Rent-n-Roll rim shops all along the coast.

Me too. That's a pile of money right there. If purchased new, there is at least 120,000.00 in just the outboards right there. Must be nice my friend.
