XL Cast Iron Place Setter....

reviews I have seen of it claim it is a bit to large....and when the temp is pushed up, say to do a pizza, it has cracked an Egg or two. Anyone here have one? Or know of another one?

I have one for my XL. It's great...It's great to cook burgers on.
I have met the company owner/designer at a couple Eggfests. They are fantastic people.
If there was an issue with it fitting tight it would be because of molding issues making the base of the BGE. It's an XL large piece of ceramic and keeping it completely round and true is no simple task.

I have the XL version. Zero issues with breaking if dropped. Plus, a nice griddle on top.

That's a great looking set up. Can that be turned over for a flat griddle and, if so, how do/can you elevate it over the coals?

TexanOfTheNorth ...the design of the cast iron platesetter as shown in Craig's photo is legs down. Shape and function is same as BGE ceramic platesetter.
The grilling/cooking side is usable only in the legs down position. When you flip it legs up for traditional indirect style cooking the cast iron PS has a "spine/support" ridge that runs from the center of each leg to the center area. This hinders using it as a flat griddle. On the plus side, when using a drip pan, it does elevate the pan off the direct surface of the PS. This help keep the drippings from burning so bad in the drip pan. I have thought about grinding mine flush but just not sure I would use it that way enough to bother.
Really is a nice product.

That's a good company though. Owner is makes patio furniture and has a big store which is also a BGE dealership. He started making products for his BGE, then it caught on. Give him a shout, very nice guy. If what you say is true, there would be nothing stopping him from changing the design.

Mike Chance is a super nice guy and will happy to answer any questions about his products. I have quite of few of his products and they are very high quality and work very well.
