Anyone know what weight this box may be and if this is a good deal? https://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/hsh/5081792627.html

check out Naked Whiz's review. It got a highly recommend for use but I don't know much about it pricing wise to say it's a good deal.

Not sure of weight, but then you may have shipping to consider. I bought several boxes many years ago from Kamado in Atlanta and found that it was hard to light with a MAPP but once going gave a long hot cook. Ended up using about 1/3 coconut and 2/3 regular lump. It did give off a fine powder grey ash that did not make some of my food look great.

Wonder if that's the same dude that was pushing that pallet buy here a few months ago?

Not to be a jerk, but have you thought about contacting the seller to confirm weight?

The ad said "$27 per 20lbs box"... So I assume it's a 20lb box...

Actually he just wrote me and said that he went back in to edit the ad to include the weight and change from 26 to 27 dollars a piece.

That seems like the normal price. Stuff is all right, nothing great. I cleaned out my firebox and used it to cook a pie with it. Does leave a lot of ash, smells great while burning but didn't impart much of a taste that I can remember, but that was many years ago and much booze.

I wouldn't think about buying that crap unless you're really patient. Coconut charcoal takes eons to light.

I purchased almost 300 lbs of that last year, for...well cheap. Very cheap. There's a thread I started about it *somewhere* on this site.
It IS slow to the party, but burns long and hot, and is flavor neutral. That said I use primarily as a supplement to regular wood based lump for low and slow and high-heat (pizza) but rarely as in never use it on its own.
That said, it does pack well and Im taking some to Death Valley to use on my Lodge Sportsmans grill, will douse it with lighter fluid and start it that way. It works well (very well) for cast iron camp oven cooking which I also enjoy. For that type of cooking it beats the hell out of briquets. Otherwise I consider it an additive to regular lump. When I'm not Eggin', I'm scootin' Eggin' and 'cueing from Temecula Ca; an hour from San Diego, an hour and five minutes from Palm Springs, and an hour and a half from Los Angeles (yeah, right. With THAT traffic?) -
Guess not
